If you haven't traveled to the great state of Alaska before, then you might want to read a few of the travel tips that we have compiled over the years.
1.
Allow extra time for travel: if there is one tip that we can give
you is to allow plenty of time for travel. Always expect a delay
of some sort and there will be no surprises. Don't plan your departure
from Anchorage back home the day before an important business meeting.
Delays due to weather are common and can not be controlled.
2. Pack light. Alaska bush aircraft are space and weight limited
due to safety and FAA regulations. For this reason there is a 40lb
maximum baggage limit per person when not on a charter flight. If
you require additional weight (i.e. fresh caught salmon) or have
oversized luggage please let us know in ADVANCE. We will make every
effort to accommodate you and your belongings. Additional weight
will be charged as freight for a nominal fee.
3. Pack smart. Bring only items that you know you will need for
your trip. Always bring layers of clothing and a good shell (Gore
Tex or similar) to keep out the occasional cold weather and chilly
rains. A good pair of hiking shoes will also be to your advantage.
4. Don't plan too much: This may seem like a strange tip, but many
people try to cram to many activities into there Alaskan adventure.
Alaska is too large to see it all so concentrate on one or two areas
and enjoy them to the fullest extent.
5.
Bug Spray: Depending on where you are in Alaska, bugs can be a pest.
Most rural, inland, and boggy areas have an abundance of flying
insects. So unless you have skin tougher than leather, plan on buying
a can of insect repellant or even better buy some insect
repellant clothing to make your stay more enjoyable.
